Running Multiple Branches Without Losing Control of Your Books
Most accounting setups are built assuming one location. That assumption holds right up until a business opens a second shop, a second warehouse, or a second branch office — and then quietly starts costing time every single day, in ways that are easy to miss until they've already piled up.
Where single-branch software breaks down
The first symptom is usually stock. If each branch's stock is tracked separately — a spreadsheet per location, or software with no real concept of "branch" at all — nobody has an honest, current answer to "how much of this do we have across the business," and a transfer between branches becomes a manual note on both ends that has to be remembered to reconcile. The second symptom is reporting: pulling one consolidated view of performance across locations means exporting from each branch separately and combining it by hand, every time someone asks for it.
What real multi-branch accounting looks like
Branches sit inside one company, not as separate books stitched together after the fact. Stock is tracked per branch but reportable across all of them. A transfer between branches is a real, trackable movement — not a manual adjustment on both sides that has to be remembered — and branch-level performance rolls up into one consolidated report without anyone exporting anything.
What to check before you commit to software across multiple locations
- Is stock tracked per branch, with a real transfer record between them — or does a transfer just mean two manual adjustments you have to remember to make?
- Can you see consolidated performance across every branch in one report, or does someone have to combine exports by hand?
- Do branch-level staff see only their own branch's data, or does everyone see everything regardless of where they actually work?
- Does adding a new branch mean a new setup from scratch, or does it plug into the accounts and structure you already have?
Vitabu ERP's Multi-Branch Management add-on covers branch registers, inter-branch stock transfers, branch-level stock management and consolidated reporting — on the same accounting core every other module uses, not a separate system per location. See the fullMulti-Branch Management page, or the Inventory page for how stock tracking works underneath it.
