Emergency

Same-day care for toothache, a knocked-out tooth or swelling, and what to do while you wait.

Same-day care

Dental emergency?

Phone us. We keep space every day for people in pain, and we will tell you how soon to come.

An emergency appointment is charged as a normal visit plus treatment. Outside opening hours, phone for advice.

Go to hospital now if

  • Your face or neck is swelling, or you cannot swallow or open your mouth
  • You have trouble breathing
  • You have had a blow to the head or face
  • You have a fever and severe pain

While you wait

A knocked-out adult tooth
Pick it up by the crown, not the root. If dirty, rinse gently in milk — never scrub. Keep it in milk or inside your cheek and come immediately: the sooner it is back, the better the chance.
Severe toothache
Rinse with warm salt water, clean gently between the teeth, and take a pain reliever as directed on the packet. Do not put aspirin on the gum. Phone us for a same-day appointment.
A broken or cracked tooth
Rinse your mouth, keep any pieces in milk and cover a sharp edge with dental wax or sugar-free gum. Phone us.
Bleeding that will not stop
Bite on a clean, damp cloth or gauze with firm pressure for twenty minutes. If it is still bleeding, phone us or go to the nearest hospital.
