Most dental problems are prevented at the sink. A few plain habits do most of the work.
Two minutes, twice a day
Use a fluoride toothpaste and a small-headed brush. Angle it towards the gum line and use short, gentle strokes rather than scrubbing.
Between the teeth
Brushing cleans about six-tenths of each tooth. Clean between them once a day with floss or a small interdental brush.
Watch the sugar
How often you have sugar matters more than how much. Sugary drinks sipped through the day are the worst habit; keep sweet things to mealtimes.
Do not rinse straight after
Spit out the toothpaste but do not rinse with water, so the fluoride stays on your teeth a little longer.
