Who we are

A co-operative owned by the people who use it.

Umoja began as a group of market traders who saved together and lent to one another. Today it serves farmers, traders, teachers and families across the region — but it is still run on the same rule: one member, one vote.

Sample story — replace it with your own. Umoja is fictional; we do not invent a history, a licence, a regulator or member numbers.

How we are run

  • One member, one vote at the annual general meeting
  • A board elected by members every year
  • Accounts audited every year and shared with members
  • Loan decisions by a committee, on written criteria
  • Surplus returned to members, as members vote
