If your dog has eaten something it should not have

Call the clinic straight away. What helps, and what can make things worse.

Dogs eat all kinds of things. Some are harmless; some are an emergency. The safest first step is always the same: call the clinic.

Call first

Tell us what was eaten, how much, and when. If you can, bring the packaging or a photo. We can tell you within a minute whether to come in now.

What not to do

Do not make your dog vomit unless a vet tells you to. For some things, vomiting makes the damage worse. Do not give milk, salt water or human medicines.

What we do

Depending on what was eaten, we may treat at once, monitor, or take an X-ray. The sooner we hear about it, the more options there are.
