Emergency checklist
Is it an emergency?
Tick what you have noticed. The most urgent item decides the advice.
A general guide, not a diagnosis. If you are unsure, call.
While you get ready
- Stay calm and keep your animal warm and quiet
- Call us before you set off, so we can prepare
- Bring any packaging if you suspect poisoning
- Move an injured animal on a flat board or blanket, supporting the whole body
Please do not
- Do not give food or water unless we tell you to
- Never give human painkillers — paracetamol and ibuprofen are poisonous to pets
- Do not make your animal vomit unless a vet tells you to
- Do not try to remove an object that is stuck in a wound
